To discharge the battery pack completely, continue to run the
oscilloscope on the battery pack until automatic shutdown
occurs.
NOTE.
To prolong the life of the battery pack and to prevent
shutdown, do not operate or charge the battery pack at high
temperatures. For best results, allow the battery pack to cool to
room temperature before using or charging the battery pack.
Cold temperatures adversely affect the normal electrochemical
reactions within a battery pack, reducing the available capacity.
You can minimize this loss by keeping the battery packs at room
temperature prior to and during use.
Do not leave a battery pack discharged for extended periods.
See the Storing Battery Packs section for information on how to
properly store a battery pack.
The battery pack stops charging under the following conditions:
The battery pack is fully charged.
The battery pack temperature exceeds the operating
temperature speci
fi
cation in the table below.
The battery pack shuts down and disconnects itself from the
TDS3000, TDS3000B, and TDS3000C series oscilloscope
under the following conditions:
The battery pack is fully discharged.
There is a fault current that exceeds 5 A for longer than
32 ms.
Calibrating the Battery Gauge
It is recommended that you perform this procedure:
For all new batteries before using the battery.
On the TDS3BATC every 45 days during its useful service
life.
To calibrate the battery gauge, follow these steps:
1.
Completely discharge the battery through the oscilloscope.
2.
Charge the battery fully the
fi
rst time either on the
oscilloscope (TDS3000, TDS3000B, or TDS3000C
series) for 32 hours or on the external charger
(TDS3ION/TDS3CHG) for 6 hours. If you use the
external charger, then you can charge the battery until the
luminous indicator on the external charger turns off.
3.
Operate the oscilloscope with the battery until the battery
is completely discharged (the oscilloscope turns off).
NOTE.
Do not connect AC power to the oscilloscope during
this time.
The battery gauge is now calibrated and should accurately
indicate the level of charge in the TDS3BATC.

Handling Battery Packs
Do not disassemble, crush, or puncture a battery.
Do not short the external contacts on a battery.
Do not dispose of a battery in
fi
re or water.
Do not expose a battery to temperatures above +60 °C
(+140 °F).
Keep the battery away from children.
Avoid exposing the battery to excessive shock or vibration.
Do not use a damaged battery.
If a battery pack has leaking
fl
uids, do not touch any
fl
uids. Dispose of a leaking battery pack. See the
Battery
Recycling
section for information on Disposal and
Recycling.
In case of eye contact with
fl
uid, do not rub eyes.
Immediately
fl
ush eyes thoroughly with water for at least
15 minutes, lifting upper and lower lids, until no evidence
of the
fl
uid remains. Seek medical attention.
Storing Battery Packs
Store battery packs in a low-humidity environment free of
corrosive gases. Storing battery packs in high-humidity
environments, or outside the temperature range, can cause
oxidation on the metallic parts and increased leakage.
Charge or discharge the battery to approximately 50% of
capacity before storage.
Charge the battery to approximately 50% of capacity at
least once every six months.
Remove the battery and store it separately from the
oscilloscope.
For optimal battery life, store the battery at temperatures
b5 °C and +20 °C (+41 °F and +68 °F).
NOTE.
The battery self-discharges during storage. Higher
temperatures (above +20 °C or +68 °F) reduce the battery
storage life.
Replacing Battery Packs
Use the instructions to remove and replace the battery packs.
NOTE.
Replace the Li-Ion battery packs only with TDS3BATC
battery packs.
See the Battery Recycling section for information on how to
properly dispose of a Li-Ion battery pack.
