Model 4000 WPP Upgrade

Version 6.0R2

Provided Materials

A new upper printed circuit board (PCB), Tektronix Part #068977-00
(REV C).

A set of new keycaps.

Software upgrade diskette. (Version 6.0 or later).

Required Tool (Not Provided)

5/16-inch nut driver.

Step-By-Step Board and Keycap Upgrade Procedure

1.

Raise the lid of the switcher panel.

2.

Power down the switcher panel.

CAUTION

To avoid static damage to sensitive electronic devices, protect the Model 4000-
3 Digital Switcher from static discharge. Avoid handling switcher modules in a
high static environment. Touch the grounded metal of the switcher before you
remove any modules. This helps ensure that any potential difference between
your body and the switcher is dissipated. Always use a grounding strap and
grounded equipment when you handle switcher PCBs and ribbon cables.

3.

Remove the new circuit board from the static protective bag in which it
was shipped. Lay the empty bag across the horizontal PCB in the
bottom of the switcher panel housing to protect it and to catch any nuts
that might be accidently dropped from above during the following
steps.

WARNING

Electrical potential is still applied to some internal components even when
the power switch/breaker is in the off position. To prevent electrical shock
when working on this equipment, disconnect the AC line cord from the AC
source before working on any internal components. A residual voltage may
be present immediately after unplugging the system due to large power
supply capacitors discharging. Wait thirty seconds to allow capacitors to
discharge before working on the system.

4.

Detach the seven ribbon cables from the originally installed #068977-00
PuP board. (It is the top-most rectangular PCB.)

Do not

 detach the other

ends of the cables. Leave those cables dangling in place for eventual re-
connection.

CAUTION

Some of the following operations require an assistant to insure that PCBs are
properly supported while screws or nuts are removed and replaced. Failure to
properly support PCBs could result in damage.
