5.2 Setting up the IDSL PPP link
RFC 1662 defines PPP over HDLC (High-level Data Link Control). HDLC is a bit-oriented,
(mean that the data is monitored bit by bit) link layer protocol for the transmission of data over
synchronous networks. Transmissions consist of binary data without any special control codes.
Information is the frame contains control and response commands, however. HDLC supports
full-duplex transmission, in which data is transmitted in two directions at the same time,
resulting in higher throughput. HDLC is suitable for point-to-point and multipoint (multidrop or
ne-to-many) connections.

At IDSL interface menu, you allow to configure the IDSL data rate and assign the PPP

The IDSL LINK LED on front panel can help you to diagnosis the IDSL physical link is success
connect, but this do not guarantee the PPP protocol is up, you can check it from
interface static
at
Monitoring
menu to make sure the PPP link is UP. If the IDSL LINK LED is bright and the
interface static
shows IDSL link is down, then you have focus on the setting of PPP
encapsulation. The following are the example of IDSL PPP setting.
