Advance the guide wire into
the femoral head until the tip
is 5 –10 mm short of
subchondral bone.
Monitor wire placement with
image intensification in the AP
and lateral views. (The black
section of the insertion handle
is partially radiolucent.)
If wire position is incorrect,
remove the wire, adjust the
insertion assembly and
replace the wire.
Press the wire sleeve against
the lateral cortex, and read
direct Spiral Blade length at
the back of the sleeve. Select
a blade length equal to or
shorter than this reading,
and remove the sleeve and
aiming arm.
