and back-end storage adapters. Unlike current ST9985 that has 4Gb/s
front-end (adapters), but only 2Gb/s back-end (to disks).
The maximum internal bandwidth was increased from 12GB/s on the ST9985
to 13.3 GB/s on the ST9985V
Q. This product update doesn't include consolidation allowances. Where
do I obtain values for the storage systems that I want to consolidate
onto the ST9985V?
A. The size and scope of consolidations vary from customer to customer
and situation to situation.
Q. What is the i18n/l10n compliance of the ST9900 series software
products in this announcement?
A. ST9990 software is available in English and Japanese. HiCommand and
Sun Dynamic Link Manager (SDLM) are i18n compliant. The Sun StorageTek
SDLM series software is available in English.
A waiver for Localization (l10n) has been granted for ST9900 Series
software. Periodic reviews with Product Authorization Committee(PAC)
are conducted to ensure compliance.
Q. Is the ST9985 upgradeable to the ST9985V?
A. The ST9985 is not directly upgradeable to a ST9985V. However, it can
be virtualized by the ST9985V as a member external storage.
Q. How can I upgrade an ST9910/60/70/80 to a ST9985V?
A. The ST9910/60/70/80 are not directly upgradeable to a ST9985V.
However, they can be virtualized behind the ST9985V system.
A complete swap upgrade is available using Sun's Upgrade Allowance
Program. Sun Professional Services can perform data migration
service to complement the upgrade.
Q. Does the ST9985V work with ST9910/60/70/80/85/90/90V?
A. The ST9985V will work with the ST9910/60/70/80/85/90/90V at multiple
levels.
First, the ST9985V will work with ST9910/60/70/80/85/09/90V with
TrueCopy for short and long distance replication.
Second, cross platform copy software is available for use with
ST9910/60/70/80/85/09/90V. (Insystem-Replication Suite)
Third, is the ability for the ST9985V to virtualize multiple tiers of
storage, both Sun, Hitachi Data Systems and other vendor storage systems.
Q. Can an you put FC-SATA HDDs in the ST9985V?
A. Higher capacity FC-SATA HDDs are planned for later availability.
Please stay tuned to the hdsconfig.global.net alias and if intentions
become firm plans, a communication will be sent to this alias.
We will accommodate array systems designed to be commensurate with the
economics, availability, reliability, and performance requirements
associated with the SATA-based array market space. The ST9985V design
parameters are for the Low/Mid Data Center market space.
Q. What is the target market?
A. The target customers for the ST9985V are small to medium enterprise
storage consumers that require solutions for storage aggregation,
consolidation, simplification, tiered storage, data lifecycle
