Note – This chapter does not cover recovery from crashed disks or installations over
the network from a machine other than the SSP.
What You Need to Start
You need to be very familiar with your site configuration and with the configuration
of the server before you start a fresh install or an upgrade. Some of the information
can be gotten from the server configuration files; however, site configuration
information must be gotten from the site administrator. The following list contains
references to information that you must have to complete the fresh installation or the
upgrade:

IP address for the new domain
■
Logical name of the boot device in the form cxtxdxsx
You can use the
/etc/vfstab
file to determine the logical name of the boot device.
In the following example, the boot device is
c0t0d0s0
.
Caution – Controller numbers can change. You must ensure that you are using the
correct logical name with the correct controller number.
Creating a Domain
This section contains instructions on how to create a new domain. The entire
procedure includes the following tasks:

Creating the
eeprom.image
file for the new domain
■
Creating the new domain on the SSP
■
Installing a fresh copy of the Solaris operating environment by performing the
procedures in “Performing a Fresh Install” on page 165
