Cockpit Cont.
☐
With latch properly installed bond the 1/64 in.
plywood doubler C3 on top of slot in H10 just
aft of H12b. Bend in wire latch nests within
slot to hold catch open fit length if required.
☐
Bond part H18 to underside of cockpit
assembly tabbed within slot of H14.
☐
Using medium CA glue, bond one 3/16 in.
diameter rare earth (neo.) magnet. within
circular pocket of H18.
Catches
☐
The battery hatch is retained within the
fuselage by magnetic catches. The cockpit
will be retained with a combination of
mechanical latch and magnets.
Build one tall C1 plywood catch from parts
C1a and C1b and two short C2 plywood
catches from parts C2a and C2b. Key
together as illustrated and bond with medium
CA glue.
☐
As magnets have been installed to both
Battery Hatch and Cockpit assemblies, It will
be important to match the proper orientation
(polarity) of the remaining 3 magnets to their
respective catches and locations.
Begin with battery hatch catches C1 (tall) and
and C2 (short). Test fit C1 and magnet to
wide end of Battery Hatch (at H3). Test fit C2
and magnet to narrow end of Battery Hatch
(at H7). Once satisfied that catches are
located to proper side of hatch (relative to
how they are installed within fuselage) and
that magnets attract (not repel), bond
magnets within catches using medium CA
glue.
Tip: mark fuselage and catch to
designate proper part location for assembly.
Repeat process for Cockpit catch (at H14)
using remaining C2 (short) catch.
