3.3. Firmware Update

The IDU’s firmware, including software running on the embedded microprocessor
as well as the FPGA-based modem and related signal processing, can be remotely
updated. An outline of the instructions for updating firmware are as follows:

1) Setup TFTP server and associated firmware upgrade files. Detailed instructions
are provided below for installing (freeware) Solarwinds TFTP server on a standard
PC. The operator may also use an existing TFTP server if one is available.

2) Establish Ethernet connection between the computer hosting the TFTP server
and the IDU (locally or via a network). 3) Execute upgrade via the IDU’s web GUI
interface.

3.3.1. Step 1 – Setting Up Solarwinds TFTP Server

These instructions assume that the (freeware) Solarwinds server is to be installed
on an external PC.

•

Ensure all firewalls are switched off on the external PC.

•

Install Solarwinds TFTP server on the external PC. The TFTP software is

available for download at

http://www.solarwinds.com/downloads/

Look for

“Free TFTP Server on the Solarwinds web page and download.

•

Once installed on the external PC, start the TFTP server application, as

shown in Figure 32.
