3. Setup and Operation
3.1. Basic Link Setup
To setup a link for operation, proceed with the following steps at each terminal:
1. Prior to connecting DC power to the IDU, connect the IDU and ODU via a 50
ohm coaxial cable. LMR-400 or equivalent is recommended.
2. Connect the IDU Ethernet port to a laptop or other computer. Make sure that
the laptop’s network settings are consistent with the default network settings
of the IDU. The default IDU network settings as shipped from the factory are
as follows:
IP Address: 192.168.70.100
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.70.1
It will in general be necessary to change the IDU’s network setting from their
default before proceeding to setup a link. See Section 3.2 for details.
If the management computer and IDU are to be connected directly (not over
a routed network), refer to Section 3.2 for specific instructions on properly
configuring the IDU and laptop network settings.
3. Connect an external DC power supply to the IDU front panel interface. Make
certain that the polarity of the external supply matches the configuration of
the IDU (see Section 1.2.6 for details).
4. The IDUs are factory configured to power-up in the default IDU and ODU
configuration requested by the customer. If the default configuration is
desired, no action should be required at either terminal to establish a
working link. After powering on each terminal, simply connect the
appropriate line interfaces at each IDU.
5. To change the configuration of the IDU or ODU, configure the IDU and ODU
as desired from the various tabs of the web GUI interface. (See Section 2.1
for a discussion of the web GUI management interface.)
When both ends of the link have been configured to compatible
configurations, acquisition is automatic on both sides.
