The SQL (Squelch) knob
Adjusting
[SQL]
clockwise, sets the point at which random noise on the channel does not
activate the audio circuits but a received signal does. This point is called the squelch
threshold. Further adjustment of the squelch control will degrade reception of wanted
transmissions.
The Alphanumeric Keypad
Allows entering letters or numbers on Radio or DSC menus.
The 16/9 key
Immediately recalls channel 16 from any channel location. Holding down this key recalls
channel 9. Pressing
[16/9]
again reverts to the previous selected working channel.
Secondary use
Press and hold
[16/9]
then press
[WX]
to changes from USA, International, and Canadian
channel groups.
The WX key
Immediately recalls the previously selected NOAA weather channel from any channel.
Secondary use
Holding down
[16/9]
while pressing
[WX]
changes from USA, International and Canadian
channel groups.
The DW key
Pressing this key enables dual watch between a priority channel (Ch16 is the default) and
a selected channel until a signal is received. When a signal is received on the selected
channel the radio will momentarily switch to the Priority channel and listen for communications.

The SCAN/MEM key
Press
[SCAN/MEM]
to start and stop the scanning of programmed channels. Refer to
section “18.11 SCANNING” for details.
Secondary use
To memorized a channel into scan memory, select the channel and press and hold
[SCAN/MEM]
until “
MEM
” is shown in the “VHF Radio” window on the display.
To delete a memorized channel from scan memory, select the channel and press and hold
[SCAN/MEM]
until “
MEM
” is removed from the display.
The H/L key
Press
[H/L]
to toggle the transmit output power between 25 W (High) and 1 W (Low) power.
When
[H/L]
is pressed while the transceiver is on channel 13 or 67, the power will
temporarily switch from LO to HI power until
[PTT]
is released.
[H/L]
does not function on transmit inhibited and low power only channels.
NOTE
1W low power is indicated by “LO” on the display, when 25W high power is selected the display
shows “HI” on the display.
The CALL key
Press
[CALL]
to access the DSC OPERATION menu. “INDIVIDUAL CALL,” “GROUP
CALL,” “ALL SHIPS CALL,” “POSITION REQUEST,” “POSITION SEND,” “DSC STANDBY,”
and “DSC LOG” functions, selected by the Soft Keys located underneath the display.
NOTE
To use DSC functions a MMSI must be entered. Refer to section “19.1 MARITIME MOBILE
SERVICE IDENTITY (MMSI).”
