Troubleshooting
Check whether the
1
(standby) indicator is flashing in red or “PROTECT” appears in the front
panel display.
When
1
is flashing or “PROTECT” appears
The self-diagnosis function is activated.

Count how many times
1
(standby) flashes every two seconds and check if any LED lights blink or
any messages or letters/numbers appear in the front panel display.
For example, the indicator flashes three times, then there is a two second break, followed by another three flashes, etc.

Press
1
on the system to switch it off, disconnect the AC power cord (mains lead), and inform your
dealer or Sony service centre of how the indicator flashes (number of flashes), or any messages or
letters/numbers that appear in the front panel display.
When

is not flashing or “PROTECT” does not appear

Check the items in the tables below.

If the problem still persists, have your system serviced by qualified service personnel.
Note that if service personnel changes some parts during repair, these parts may be retained.

• Check the connection between the optional equipment and the system.
Distorted picture
• Check if any connected optional equipment is installed in front of the
system or beside the system. When installing optional equipment, leave
some space between the optional equipment and the system.
• When changing programmes or selecting Text, turn off any equipment
connected to the scart connector on the rear of the system.
Double images or ghosting
• Check aerial/cable connections.
• Check the aerial location and direction.
Only snow and noise appear
on the screen
• Check if the aerial is broken or bent.
• Check if the aerial has reached the end of its serviceable life (three to five
years in normal use, one to two years at the seaside).
