HD5050
SECTION 4
HD5050070999 Version 1 Issue 4
For Software Version Z5 onwards
4.8
2:2 -> 3:2
In this mode the HD5050 will take in incoming 2:2
frame based material and will up-convert to a 3:2
frame based format. Once again the pairing
algorithm is used and the HD5050 exploits the
frame based input to obtain the maximum possible
vertical resolution in the up-converted output. The
fields are paired up according to the Pair As setting
(see below). Note that because of this, if video or
3:2 based material is present at the input then the
output from the HD5050 will not be correct. An
example of this might be an input of 625/24P up-
converted to 1080/60 where the output has a 3:2
sequence.
Note:
It is important when using the frame based
processing modes that the correct relationship
between the input field rate and the output field
rate is maintained. For example, in 2:2 -> 2:2
mode, if the input and output field rates are not
identical then there will be periodic frame drops at
the output of the HD5050. Similarly, in 2:2 -> 3:2
mode it is important that the output field rate is one
and a half times the input field rate. If it is not,
continuous 3:2 sequence will not be obtained. To
make this easy, it is possible to genlock the
HD5050 output to it’s input (see Genlock menus
below).
Pair As sub-menu
This allows the user to determine how the HD5050
will pair up incoming frame based material.
Normal
The HD5050 will pair incoming field ones with the
following field twos. This is normal field dominance.
If the HD5050 is in Video -> Video mode (Pair)
then this will provide clean cuts if the programme
cuts are on field ones. If the HD5050 is in Video ->
2:2 (Pair) mode then the output of the HD5050 will
also change on field one boundaries.
Inverted
The HD5050 will pair incoming field twos with the
following field ones. This is inverted field
dominance. If the HD5050 is in Video -> Video
mode (Pair) then this will provide clean cuts if the
programme cuts are on field twos. If the HD5050 is
in Video -> 2:2 (Pair) mode then the output of the
HD5050 will also change on field two boundaries.
