cannot continue to burn and it will be ex-
tinguished.
The fi re extinguishers shipped with your
43SB should be mounted in a readily ac-
cessible location away from the engine
compartment, but in a relative position to
potential
fi re hazards, such as the Galley.
The fi re extinguishers should be mounted
within plain view and all passengers on
board should be familiar with their location
and operation before departing your dock.
Maintenance of your portable fi re extin-
guishers should consist of periodic clean-
ing of the canisters and making certain
they are easily seen and readily acces-
sible. Periodically examine the gauge on
each
fi re extinguisher to be sure they are
fully charged. If the gauge indicates the
fi re extinguisher is not fully charged, con-
tact your Silverton Dealer for replacement.
DO NOT test the charge of your portable
fi re extinguishers by operation of them; it
will discharge them unnecessarily.

PORTABLE FIRE
EXTINGUISHER SYSTEM
As a yacht owner or operator, you have
the responsibility of having the required
quantity of United States Coast Guard
approved
Portable Fire Extinguishers
aboard at all times, except during storage.
The Portable Fire Extinguishers must be
operational and of the proper classi
fi ca-
tion.
The classi fi cation of Portable Fire Extin-
guishers and their appropriate use is as
follows:
CLASS “A”
“Fires in ordinary combustible materials,
such as wood, paper, and cloth, where the
quenching-cooling effect of quantities of
water or high water content solution cools
the burning material below the ignition
temperature.”
CLASS “B”
“Fires in fl ammable petroleum products
or other fl ammable liquids, greases, etc.,
where the blanketing-smothering effect of
oxygen-excluding media is most effective.”
CLASS “C”
“Fires involving electrical equipment where
the electrical conductivity of the extin-
guishing media is the
fi rst consideration.”
Your 43SB is equipped with two (2) Class
B/C portable, handheld fi re extinguish-
ers. Class B/C fi re extinguishers will
effectively fi ght fi res of the Class “B” and
Class “C” type. The Class B/C portable
fi re extinguisher contains pressurized dry
powder, which when released, will leave
a powder residue that smothers the
fi re
and removes its source of oxygen. Once
the source of oxygen is removed, the
fi re
