10.8V Multi-Tool

900798

Notes about battery charging

•  The Battery should be charged at ambient temperatures between 10 and 40°C (ideally
  around 20°C)
•  After charging, allow 15 minutes for the battery to cool before use
•  Ensure that the charger is disconnected from the mains supply after use, and is
  stored correctly
•  DO NOT leave batteries on charge for extended periods and NEVER store batteries
  on charge
•  The Battery Charger monitors battery temperature and voltage while charging. Remove
the Battery once charging has been completed to maximise charge cycles of the battery
  and not waste power
•  Batteries can become faulty over time, individual cells in the battery can fail and the
battery could short. The charger will not charge faulty batteries. Use another battery,
if possible, to check correct functionality of the charger and purchase a replacement
battery if a faulty battery is indicated
•  DO NOT store Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery packs in a discharged state long term. This
can damage the Lithium-Ion cells. For long-term storage, store batteries in a high
charge state disconnected from the power tool
•  The capacity of batteries will reduce over time. After 100 charge cycles, the battery’s
operation time and the maximum torque performance of the multi-tool will slightly
reduce. This decline will continue until the battery has minimal capacity after 500
charge cycles. This is normal and not a fault with the battery pack

Fitting the Battery

1.  Ensure the Battery (6) has adequate charge (see ‘Charging the Battery’)
2.  Insert the Battery into the Hand Grip (5) (the Battery can only fit one way) until the
Battery Release (7) clips lock into place with a faint clicking sound
3.  Your multi-tool is ready to use

Removing the Battery

1.  Press in and hold the Battery Release (7) clips on both sides of the Hand Grip (5) then
  pull out the Battery (6)
2.  The Battery can now be inserted into the Battery Charger (12) to charge, if required (see
‘Charging the Battery’), or stored in a cool, dry place

Fitting a blade or scraper

1.  Use the supplied Hex Key to loosen and remove the Mounting Bolt (11) and Mounting
Washer (10) by turning the bolt anti-clockwise as you face the Mounting Spindle
  (9) (Fig. A)
2.  Position the blade or scraper on to the flange of the Mounting Spindle so that the
mounting holes in the blade engage with the pins on the flange (Fig. B)
3.  The blade or scraper can be positioned at an angle not directly in line with the tool if
required, so long as the blade or scraper mounting holes are engaged with the pins on
  the mounting flange
4.  Refit the Mounting Bolt and Mounting Washer carefully, as shown in Fig. B, ensuring the
blade or scraper correctly sits in the flange pins as the bolt is tightened

         WARNING:

The blade or scraper and Mounting Spindle can be damaged if the pins

are not inserted into the blade mounting holes
5.  Before using the tool, check that the blade or scraper is securely fitted and the
  bolt is tight

Note:

Blades or scrapers that are cranked or bent must be mounted on the tool so that the

end of the blade is away from the tool as shown in Fig. B.

Fitting the sanding pad and sanding sheets

Note:

This tool comes supplied with 4 x sanding sheets: 2 x wood sanding sheets (80 and

120 grit); and 2 x metal sanding sheets (80 and 120 grit).
1.  Use the supplied Hex Key to loosen and remove the Mounting Bolt (11) and Mounting
Washer (10) by turning the bolt anti-clockwise as you face the Mounting Spindle (9)
  (Fig. A)
2.  Position the supplied sanding pad onto the flange of the Mounting Spindle, so that the
mounting holes in the Sanding Pad (16) engage with the pins on the flange (Fig. C)
3.  The Sanding Pad can be positioned at an angle if required but normally a point of the
triangle base is directly in line with the body of the tool
4.  Refit the Mounting Bolt and Mounting Washer carefully, as shown in Fig. B, ensuring the
Sanding Pad correctly sits in the flange pins, as the bolt is tightened.

         WARNING:

The Sanding Pad and Mounting Spindle can be damaged if the pins are

not inserted into the mounting holes in the Sanding Pad
5.  Before using the tool, check that the Sanding Pad is securely fitted and the bolt is tight
6.  Select the required sanding sheet for your intended task (see ‘Selecting the right grade
  of sanding sheet’ below)
7.  The Sanding Pad and sanding sheets use a hook and loop system for attachment. To
mount the sheet carefully line up one corner of the sheet with a corner of the Sanding
Pad and gradually push the rest of the sheet onto the pad, checking alignments as you
do so, until the sheet is fitted correctly (Fig. D)

Selecting the right grade of sanding sheet

•  Sanding sheets are available in a variety of different grades: coarse (40–60 grit),
medium (120 grit) and fine (240 grit)

•  Use a coarse grit to sand down rough finishes, medium grit to smooth the work, and
  fine grit to finish off
•  Always use good quality sanding sheets to maximise the quality of the finished task
•  It is advisable to do a trial run on a scrap piece of material to determine the optimum
grades of sandpaper for a particular job. If there are still marks on your work after
sanding, try either going back to a coarser grade and sanding the marks out before
recommencing with the original choice of grit, or try using a new piece of sandpaper to
eliminate the unwanted marks before going on to a finer grit and finishing the job

Operation

         WARNING:

ALWAYS wear adequate personal protection equipment, including eye,

hearing and respiratory protection when working with this tool.

         WARNING:

Anti-vibration gloves should be worn when operating this tool to protect

users from the effect of vibration produced by the tool.

         WARNING:

DO NOT inhale dust. Wear adequate breathing protection. Some dusts may

be toxic especially from man-made composite materials.

Switching On and Off

1.  Hold the multi-tool firmly by the Hand Grip (5) with your thumb over the On/Off
  Switch (3)
2.  To switch the tool On: slide the On/Off Switch forward until it locks
3.  To switch the tool Off: slide the On/Off Switch back

         WARNING:

Allow the tool to reach the required speed before making contact with

the workpiece.

         WARNING:

Motor Vents (8) allow heat generated from the motor to escape the body of

the tool and must not become blocked. Dust, wood chippings and swarf can block the motor
vents and cause the tool to shut down. Swarf, created when cutting metal, can also cause
permanent damage if it enters the tool. Do not allow dust, wood chippings and swarf to build
up. Use a vacuum cleaner to keep the work space clean, especially in confined areas, and
when working with harmful substances.

         WARNING:

If the power tool gets excessively hot in use, stop using the tool immediately

and allow to cool before continuing work. The cooling period can be reduced operating the
multi-tool at maximum speed with no load. Always make sure the Motor Vents are not blocked
and do not allow dust to enter the body of the tool through the Motor Vents; dust, especially
metallic dust, may damage or destroy the tool.

Adjusting the tool speed

•  The oscillating speed of this multi-tool can be adjusted using the Variable Speed Dial (4)
1.  To increase the oscillating speed, turn the Variable Speed Dial to a higher
  number setting
2.  To decrease the oscillating speed, turn the Variable Speed Dial to a lowers
  number setting

Note

: Adjust the tool speed to best suit the work carried out and to adapt to material

requirements. Also, refer to the accessory’s manufacturer’s instructions, regarding the optimal
tool speed selection

Sawing

•  Ensure the saw blade is sharp and in good condition
•  Do not use saw blades that are damaged or deformed in any way
•  When sawing light building materials, follow the recommendations of the
  material suppliers
•  Apply plunges cuts to soft materials ONLY, for example wood, plasterboard, etc.
•  If using saw blades not designed for cutting metal, ensure there are no nails or screws
embedded in the workpiece. If necessary, remove embedded objects or use metal
  cutting saw blades instead

Sanding

•  The removal rate and the sanding pattern are determined by the type of sanding sheet,
the pre-set oscillation rate, and the applied pressure to the multi-tool
•  Pay particular attention to applying uniform sanding pressure; this increases the
working life of the sanding sheets
•  Intensifying the sanding pressure will not lead to an increase of the sanding capacity,
but to increased wear of the machine and premature wear of the sanding sheet
•  For precise on-the-spot sanding of edges, corners and hard-to-reach areas, it is also
possible to work only with the tip or an edge of the sanding plate
•  A sanding sheet that has been used for sanding metal should not be used for sanding
  other materials
•  Regularly brush down or vacuum the surface being sanded to ensure the sanding sheet
is in direct contact with the surface

Scraping

•  For scraping, select a high-speed setting
•  On soft surfaces (e.g. wood), work at a flat angle and apply only light pressure so that
the scraper does not cut into the surface
