4.2.2
Storing
The motors can be stored for up to two years in a favorable condition without the specified
bearing lifetime being reduced.
Note
Storage
If possible, store the motor in its original packaging.
Note
Replacing roller bearings
•
Even if the motor has been stored for more than two years under favorable conditions,
you must replace the bearings.
•
If the motor has been stored under unfavorable conditions, you must replace the bearings
after approximate 18 months.
NOTICE
Seizure damage to bearings due to the incorrect storage
If the motors are stored incorrectly, bearing seizure damage can occur, for example,
brinelling, as a result of vibrations.
•
Observe the instructions for storing the motor.
Short-term storage
To store the motor for less than six months, observe the instructions below:
•
Apply a preservation agent to bare or external components for example, shaft extensions,
if this has not already been carried out in the factory.
•
Store the motor in an area that fulfills the following requirements:
–
Relative humidity: < 75%
–
Temperature: -15 °C to +55 °C
–
Vibration: V
rms
< 0.2 mm/s
–
Well ventilated
–
Dust-free
–
Offers protection against extreme weather conditions
–
No harmful gases in the air of the storage area
•
Protect the motor against shocks and humidity.
•
Make sure that the motor is covered properly.
•
Avoid contact corrosion. Siemens recommends you to rotate the shaft extension manually
every three months.
