cartridge in the drive but the tape is not looped around the read/write head.

is lit when there is a cartridge in the drive and the tape is looped around the
read/write head but is not being spooled..
–
flashes when there is a cartridge in the drive and the tape is being spooled.
With an 8 mm tape, long startup and positioning times are required. The ready
indicator flashes for the respective length of time.
Do not press the drive release button (1) if either the data transfer
indicator or the ready indicator is lit or flashing. Doing so may cause loss
of data.
Use only Exatape and SONY QG112M
A
cartridges for the 8 mm cartridge
tape drive. Other types of cartridge may damage the heads of the drive.
8 mm cartridges should only be left in the drive for as long as is absolutely
necessary. Even a slight accumulation of dust may result in contami-
nation and lead to damage in subsequent operation of the drive.
Under optimum conditions you can use an 8 mm cartridge tape up to 500
times. In a dusty environment or in constant stop/start operation, service
life can drop as low as 30 usage cycles. If a MEDIUM ERROR or
EXCESSIVE WRITE ERROR message is displayed during a backup, you
must immediately replace the 8 mm cartridge with a new one.
