Sleep mode
The measurement laser of the DME4000 can be switched on and off with the sleep mode function via
the MF1 input. When the laser is switched off, the DME is in standby mode; the ready indicator in the
display switches off.
To monitor the function, MF2 can signal ready-to-operate with “Ready” when the laser is switched on.
With the PROFIBUS variant, the same function can be achieved with use of the SICK profile class 2 via 4
byte output data bit 29.
With the RS 422 variant ASCII command (chapter 9.5.2) and with CANopen variant SDO service (chapter
9.8.4) can be used.

RS-422 Interface
The serial data transmission of the DME4000 allow to read measurement values and other specified
operational characters. All characters are transmitted as ASCII characters framed by STX (ASCII 02) and
ETX (ASCII 03).
Operational characters (like internal temperature) are transmitted by a request command. Measure-
ment values are transmitted in a continuous data stream (continuous mode) or only by request (request
mode).
The DME4000 default is request mode.
Commands are only accepted in request mode.
