2 INITIAL SETTINGS
A LOOK AT THE OPERATION PANEL
Before you can begin using your fax, there are some settings which must be made
using the keys on the operation panel. First take a moment to familiarize yourself with
the operation panel, and then make the settings as described on the following pages.
Liquid crystal display
This displays various
messages during
operation and
programming.
SPEED key
Press this key to dial
a 2-digit Speed Dial
number.
REDIAL key
Press this key to
automatically redial the
last number dialled.

RESOLUTION key
Press this key to adjust the
resolution and contrast
before sending or copying
a document.
FUNCTION key
Press this key to
select various
special functions.
RECEPTION MODE key
Press this key to select
the mode of reception.
Number keys
Use these keys to dial
numbers, and enter
numbers and letters
during number/name
storing procedures.
SPEAKER key
Press this key to dial a
number without picking
up the handset.
R key
If you are on a P.B.X. extension,
press this key to transfer or put
the other party on hold. It can
also be used to move the cursor
to the left when storing a number
or name.
Rapid Keys
Use these keys to dial fax
and voice numbers
automatically. Rapid Key 01
(indicated by the blue logo)
also serves as an access
key when using the Mercury
Service.
(Note that you must attach
the Rapid Key labels.)
STOP key
Press this key to stop
operations before they
are completed.
START key
Press this key to
send or receive a
document.
MEMORY key
Press this key to scan a
document into memory
before transmitting it.
COPY key
Press this
key to
make a
copy of a
document.
Service indicator
This lights when a
problem occurs which
must be fixed by a
service engineer.
Toner empty indicator
This blinks when the
imaging cartridge is near
the end of its life, and
lights steadily when it
must be replaced.
PAPER CHECK light
This light comes on
when you are out of
paper.
Reception mode lights
One of these lights will
come on to indicate
which reception mode
has been selected.
SEARCH DIAL key
Press this key to search
for an automatic dialling
number.
BROADCAST key
Press this key to send a
document to a group of
receiving fax machines.
