Underwater Surveys
6.3
For underwater surveys it is absolutely necessary to follow closely the instructions given
in Step 2b of
Chapter 5 Preparing the Survey.
Pay also attention to the fact that a
special weight for diver probes needs to be mounted to the external probe prior to
starting the survey.
Surveying under water is similar to standard area surveys. The only difference is the setup of the
SBL10. The control and display unit remains on the vessel or on shore during an underwater
survey. The diver is moving the external probe only, which is connected to the control and display
unit via the borehole cable. The diver is guided by the acoustic signals of the SBL10. The survey
itself is carried out as described in Chapter
.
Borehole Surveys
6.4
For borehole surveys it is absolutely necessary to follow closely the instructions given in
Step 2b of
Chapter 5 Preparing the Survey.
Pay also attention to the fact that a
special weight needs to be mounted to the external probe prior to starting the
survey.
To start a borehole measurement, lower the external probe with the mounted weight in the
borehole. Ensure that the probe is not tilted in the borehole.
The measurement takes place while pulling the probe out of the borehole. Make sure to maintain a
constant pace when pulling up the cable. Avoid oscillating probe movements and prevent to rotate
the probe. To detect objects in the ground, watch the display constantly when pulling up the probe.
As that probe is not able to measure the depth of the borehole, it is advisable to place marks on the
borehole cable. Thus you can determine the depth of a reading.
