Modem environment
Hardware installation
Before installing the video server, make a note of the device serial numbers.
To use a communication network, the video server must not be connected to the Internet. The Ethernet is selected as
first priority among the available interfaces. After you switch on, the video server finds out whether external modems
are connected to the modem port. If a modem is detected, the heartbeat LED flashes. If no modem responds, the
video server assumes that a null modem cable is connected. Then both lower LEDs light up until the connection with
the null modem has been established.
If a remote communications server is installed or an ISP service is used, the video server can be configured to dial in
for special events. If this does not happen, you have to establish a network connection.
Cable connections
Before connecting, switch off all peripherals. Note that the transformer must be connected last. For the first
access to the video server without Ethernet, the administrator can use a null modem cable to connect to COM
for a direct connection. After the necessary details have been entered, a modem can be used to connect to the
Internet.
