Make sure that only 2/3 of the slit are illuminated by the light source. This is illustrated in the 

following figure.

NOTE 

The projected picture at the light sensor should be a sharp one. The full height of the photo 

diodes has to be illuminated by the light beam. This is shown in the following figure.
