6 OPERATION
Operating conditions
■
Never use a poorly functioning or damaged magnetic circular chuck!
■
Never leave the magnet switched on for an extended period before use and without a workpiece!
■
The pole plate of the magnet must always be kept clean and level!
■
Use positive drive for heavy machining!
■
Never work with reduced holding force!
■
The maximum workpiece temperature must not exceed 80 °C!
■
Always use appropriate shielding during machining, so that any ejected swarf or parts do not pose a risk
for the operator!
■
Never chuck a workpiece with a large projection or height beyond the pole plate (max. height approx.
1 x workpiece width)!
■
If possible, do not chuck any workpieces with irregular contact surfaces!
■
For higher rotational speeds, never chuck a workpiece off-centre!
6.1
Chucking
■
Remove any burrs and uneven areas on the workpiece contact surface to ensure that the workpiece rests against
the plate as evenly as possible.
■
Wipe the pole plate of the magnet and the contact surface of the workpiece clean.
■
If the magnet is equipped with a connector, remove it from the parking station and plug it in. Always ensure that
there is no dirt or water.
■
Position the workpiece.
■
Press the button for switching on the magnet. A light will flash to indicate the magnetising pulse.
■
If necessary, align with reduced holding force (holding force coding switch at level 1 to 5).
When using the magnet vertically, secure the workpiece against falling (e.g. with a crane).
■
Switch on the full holding force, set the holding force coding switch to the highest level.
■
Check for sufficient holding force, e.g. by carefully trying to release the workpiece from the magnet by hand.
■
Close the shielding.
■
Machine the workpiece.
NOTE!
Please note that, for physics reasons, reproducible holding forces can only
be achieved on electro permanent magnets from the lowest towards the
highest holding force level. To carry out a defined force reduction, the
demagnetising cycle has to be initiated with the corresponding button
between the individual steps.
