APC Control Range Setting
The APC Control Range enables a target power range or width to be set for APC control. The
automatic feedback will only adjust the attenuation setting when the optical output power
exceeds the range specified by the APC Control Range. The power range is the peak to peak
width and should be set in the range 0.1dB to 3.0dB. When the optical input power fluctuates
rapidly it is recommended to increase the APC Control Range to prevent instability. When no
value is entered the default value is 0.1dB.
1. Check that the Wavelength / Power Indicator LED is indicating Power. If not, press the
Wavelength Power Selector Key to toggle from the Wavelength setting.
2. Press the Shift Key. The LED immediately above the Shift Key will light indicating the
Shift function is active. While the Shift function is active, press the APC Key. The LED
immediately above the APC Key will flash and the Shift function will deactivate (Shift
LED extinguishes). The Power Display Panel will now show the APC Control Range.
3. Enter the required value for the control range using the Numeric Keypad. The value
should be entered in dB and is indicated in the Power Display Panel. The value entered
must be in the range 0.1dB to 3.0dB and has two decimal places. To cancel the input
press the Attenuation / Wavelength Selector Key and the display will return to its
currently set value. It is not possible to set the APC Control Range using the Up / Down
Arrow keys.
4. Press the enter (ENT) key to save the displayed value to memory and set the APC Control
Range.
