Impeller Assembly
a. For F4G I and F4J1, place "O" ring (4-914-0) into the impeller (4-005-5) "O" ring groove. For
F4Hl, place "O" ring over impeller hub. Screw the impeller onto the shaft.
b. Hold the coupling end of the shaft and tighten the impeller firmly using the cast hex.
NOTE:
Be sure impeller tightens on shaft threads before rubbing stuff box cover.
c. Loosen bearing housing cap screws (5-904-4) and turn adjusting nut clockwise until backside of
the impeller just touches stuffing box.
NOTE
: If a cartridge seal is being used, insert centering tabs and loosen seal set screws before
performing this step. Pump shaft may not rotate freely while centering tabs are in place.
To assure that frame is properly assembled check gap between the faces of the bearing housing and
the frame. The gap should be approximately as follows:
F4-G1 9/64” / 3.57 mm
F4-Hl 3/16” / 4.76 mm
F4-J1 1 /4” / 6.35 mm
Casing Assembly
a. Lightly coat the casing gasket (2-123-0) with non-retaining sealant and place it over stuffing box.
Install rotating element into casing.
b. Secure the rotating assembly to the casing with studs (2-908-0) and nuts (2-903-0).
D. ADJUSTMENTS
1. Impeller clearance
NOTE:
If a cartridge seal is being used, insert centering tabs and loosen seal set screws before
performing this step. Pump shaft may not rotate freely while centering tabs are in place.
a. Bearing housing cap screws (5-904-4) must be loose.
b. Turn adjusting nut (5-032-4) counterclockwise approximately 90 degrees.
b. Using bearing housing cap screws (5-904-4) move shaft assembly forward to casing until impeller
lightly touches the casing. Then rotate adjusting nut clockwise until it is snug against frame. This
is the zero setting. Loosen the screws. Turn adjusting nut clockwise to set proper impeller
clearance (see Table below: Impeller Axial Clearance to Casing).
d. Tighten firmly screws (5-904-4). Rotate shaft by hand to make sure there is no rubbing.
2. Seal water
Refer to Section IV, I on page 7; Section VI, D on page 15; and Appendix "A", "Seal Lubrication
Pressure" on page 29.
