In the example on the previous page, every program stored in the
/pal/j1/
folder
will run on a C64 PAL, and use Joystick port 1 as the primary controller.
Structuring your files and folders on the USB stick
The folder level configuration feature works best when you arrange your files and
folders in a logical order on the USB stick, as shown in the example.
If THEC64 doesn’t find a
thec64-default.cjm
file in the folder, then it comes out
of the current folder and looks in the parent folder instead. It continues to behave this
way, working its way back up the folder structure until it reaches the root of the USB
stick.
SUMMARY
THEC64 applies settings to programs loaded from a USB stick in the following order:
1. If a CJM file is present for a specific file, the CJM settings apply when the file is
loaded;
2. Otherwise, if a default cjm file is present in the folder containing the program (or
one of its parent folders) then those settings are applied;
3. Otherwise, any filename flags present at the end of the program filename are
applied;
4. Otherwise, THEC64 default settings apply.
INSERTING VIRTUAL DISKS ON THEC64
If you don’t want to auto-load virtual disks, then you need to be in Classic mode so
you can insert virtual disks and then choose what to do next.
Inserting is essential if you plan to write and save programs to disk from BASIC
or from within another program. THEC64 does insert a blank disk for you if it
fails to find one on the connected USB stick. A file named
thec64-drive8.d64
is
automatically inserted for you, but you can easily eject it and/or insert a different
disk, as explained later.
