Verifying the Aim and Path Quality
It is important to check
signal strength
and link performance before using the link for actual network traffic. This
will ensure that your line-of-sight path and antenna aiming are satisfactory. To check signal strength, connect to the
user interface of
either
Stratum IDU (as described in Step # 3, earlier in this chapter).
Receive Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI)
From within the main menu, select
[Reports..]
and press Enter to view the Reports menu, shown below. The
Reports
menu shows the
RSSI
value that represents the average signal level on all clear channels.

A properly installed link will have an RSSI value that closely matches the value specified by the path survey.
Exiting Antenna Aiming Mode
In the
Link Setup
screen, use the down arrow to select
Antenna Aiming Mode.
Press the space bar to toggle the
mode from Enabled to
Disabled
.
Choose
[^Apply]
to save your change, and then choose
[^OK]
to return to the System Administration screen.
Bringing the Link Up
From the
System Administration
screen, use the down arrow to select the
Link Up/Down
field and then press the
space bar to toggle its value to
Up
.
Note:
The link will not be “up” until the
Link Up/Down
field is set to
Up
on both IDUs.
Choose
[^Apply]
to save your change, and then choose
[^OK]
to return to the Main Menu screen.
