Original operating instruction - Wheel clamp
English
In addition, the wheel clamps may only be used for vehicles with four wheels.
Also pay attention to the load capacity of the loading harness and the straps and check the wheel clamp and straps before
and after each use for mechanical damage, as well as the safety device for the spacers and correct function of the toggle
screw.
The user must ensure that no persons are in the danger area during the lifting process.
Initial operation
1. Before each use, the wheel clamp must be checked for any damage that may affect its load-bearing
capacity. If in doubt, consult the manufacturer.
2. Then check whether the tyre width, tyre diameter and vehicle mass can be handled with your technical
resources.
3. Inspect the tyres, rims and wheel trims for damage to avoid later complaints from vehicle owners.
4. Remove the wheel covers to avoid damage.
5. Open a wheel clamp and place it in front of a wheel.
6. Slide the wheel clamp towards the centre of the vehicle and guide the two arms of the wheel clamp past
the wheel to the left and right. (Make sure that you do not touch vehicle sills, mudguards, bumpers or
other body parts).
7. Press the arms of the wheel clamp against the wheel so that they are against the tread of the wheel and
the tabs at the lower end of the arms are behind the tyre. Check that the tabs are correctly seated to
prevent them from touching the tread or rim. Otherwise there is a risk of damage.
8. Unlock the spacers and slide them towards the centre of the vehicle. These holders must be set so that
they rest close to the rim and align the wheel clamp vertically (Caution: in the case of aluminium rims, any
dirty rubber layer can scratch the rim). Secure the holders.
9. Secure the lock with the locking pin. Ensure that the arms are positioned as close to the running surface
as possible.
10. Make sure that no parts of the wheel clamp touch the tyre air valve.
11. Repeat steps 1 - 10 for all wheels. After all four wheel clamps are correctly positioned, the straps are
attached to the rigger or lifting gear of the appropriate length.
12. Raise the vehicle so that the tyres just touch the ground. Then check again on all wheel clamps whether:
- the arms rest correctly against the running surfaces
- the spacers are close to the wheel
- all tabs on the arms sit correctly behind the tyres
- the toggle screws are tightened
- the safety devices of the spacers are locked in place
13. Lift the vehicle slowly a few centimetres. Then check that the wheel clamps and straps do not touch the
body.
If this is not the case and the wheel clamps are correctly seated, you can continue the lifting process.
Maintenance
Consumable and standard parts that are easy to replace may be replaced by the operator according to the manufacturer's
instructions. Only original parts may be used. After replacing parts, check screw connections and retighten if necessary.
Any other changes and alterations may only be carried out with the written consent of the manufacturer.
To prevent corrosion and prolong the service life, the wheel clamp should always be cleaned after use in a damp environ-
ment or after heavy soiling.
Before storage, the wheel clamp must be checked for damage that may have occurred during use.
Defective wheel clamps must not be stored.
When removing the wheel mountings from the wheel clamp (e.g. for cleaning purposes), it is essential to make sure that
the parts are not interchanged when plugging them back in.
The wheel mounts then no longer snap in, and the wheel clamp is then no longer usable.
Repairs
Repairs of wheel clamps may only be carried out by qualified persons.
Never attempt to repair slings yourself.
In the event of doubt about its proper functioning, the wheel clamp must be removed from service for inspection by an
expert.
