How do you start background music? When you play back an audio-only
piece, the media adapter displays information about it. Press the left arrow
button to leave this playback screen. The piece will continue to play, stopping
only during playback of other audio content (including videos with audio
tracks), or if you press
Background Music
.
Setup
calls up a screen for adjusting the media adapter’s networking settings,
changing the video output signal, setting the volume, setting the interval
between images played back with
Play All
, and changing various “system”
settings: the display language, view type (list or thumbnail), screen saver
behavior, and presence or absence of key tones. You can also restore the
media adapter’s factory settings, view firmware version information, and
restart the setup wizard through this screen.
Pressing
Return
is the only way to leave the Setup screen.
In the server selection screen and all other screens except the home screen, when
you press a button that currently has no function, a “no” symbol appears in the top
left corner of the screen. It is time to select a server and go to the next type of
screen . . . .
Category Selection Screens
When you select a server, the first category selection screen appears. This screen
gives you the broadest choice of content: videos, music (all audio content), photos
(all still images), and “Contents” (all content, listed exactly as the media server lists it
in the Media Import panel’s
Shared Folders and Files
box).
If you select a server other than the one included with your digital
media adapter
, the
first category selection screen will be slightly different. The same principles will apply,
though: you will go through one or more category screens to
reach content of a given
type.
Two buttons that were inactive in the server selection screen come alive when you
get to category selection screens:
Play All
lets you play back all video or audio pieces, or display all images, in
the highlighted category or group and all groups within it.
Search
displays a screen for finding audiovisual content by name.
As usual, there’s more to it than that . . . .
Play All
first displays a query asking if you want to play all music, all photos,
or all movies.
You must select a type of content that exists in the highlighted category or
group (or in some group in the category). For example, if you are in the first
category selection screen and
Video
is highlighted, if you press
Play All
and
select
Music
, nothing will be played.
Speaking of pressing
Play All
in the first category selection screen, keep in
mind that all items of the selected type in all groups and subgroups in the
category will be played. That can be a lot!
