The Media Import panel is the
first
panel we explained, and it is displayed
(
re
displayed, to be precise) by clicking the
second
icon in the group at the
configuration window’s left edge.
The
second
panel we described, the Media Files panel, is displayed by clicking the
first
icon in that group.
This is because the Media Import panel is always the first to appear, and because
you must use it to select material for sharing with the media adapter before you can
organize the material with the Media Files panel.
(So why isn’t the Media Files panel’s icon the first in the group? Our guess is that this
so the panel you
change to
most often will be the easiest to find. It seems to work for
us . . . . )
Now we are going to jump around again. (We’re glad this isn’t a walking tour!). Of the
three remaining parts of the media server’s user interface, we will first introduce the
one you are most likely to find immediately useful; then we will describe the others,
which mainly provide information that you may find interesting or useful in the future.
And then we will be finished with the Configuration window!
Setting Server Options
The fourth icon down in the group at the Configuration window’s left edge is for
displaying the media server’s
Options
dialog box. You can can click this icon when
any panel is displayed. You will be returned to that panel when you exit the
Options
dialog box.
Any changes you make to the settings in this dialog box become effective in the
server after you click
OK
. You may have to press the remote control's
Refresh
button to see the results of changes that affect what appears on your TV or projector
screen.
The
Options
dialog box is divided into several sections. These sections are
explained in top-to-bottom order below.
Server Name
The server name is the name that will be used for the media server on your TV
or projector screen after the server and the media adapter establish
communication. It is initially the same as the computer name (or the first part
of the computer name, if your computer has an Internet-style multi-part name).
•
To change the server name
, either click and type in the
Server Name
box, or drag the pointer through any unwanted text in the box and then
start typing.
Server Output Sorting Method
This is how audio/video files are ordered in lists sent to the media adapter.
(The media adapter lists items on your TV or projector screen in the order
used by the media server.) The default is to arrange them in alphabetical order
by name (that is, by the titles shown in the Media Files panel’s subpanels).
