• To e r ase a station name, sim p ly r e p eat ste p s 1 to 3
and in p ut eight s p aces instead of a name.
• Once you have named a station pr eset, you can pr ess
DISP when listening to a station to switch the dis p lay
between name and f r equency.
Listening to station presets
You will need to have some pr esets sto r ed to do this. See
Saving station presets
on p age 48 if you haven’t done this
al r eady.
1 Press TUNER to select the tuner.
2 Press CLASS to select the class in which the station
is stored.
P r ess r e p eatedly to cycle th r ough classes A to G.
3 Press PRESET

An introduction to RDS
Radio Data System (RDS) is a system used by most FM
r adio stations to pr ovide listene r s with va r ious kinds of
info r mation—the name of the station and the kind of
show they’ r e b r oadcasting, fo r exam p le.
One featu r e of RDS is that you can sea r ch by ty p e of
pr og r am. Fo r exam p le, you can sea r ch fo r a station that’s
b r oadcasting a show with the pr og r am ty p e,
JAZZ
.
You can sea r ch the following pr og r am ty p es:

Searching for RDS programs
One of the most useful featu r es of RDS is the ability to
sea r ch fo r a p a r ticula r kind of r adio pr og r am. You can
sea r ch fo r any of the pr og r am ty p es listed above.
1 Press TUNER to select the FM band.

2 Press PTY SEARCH.
PTY SEARCH shows in the dis p lay.
3 Press PRESET

to select the program type you
want to hear.
4 Press ENTER to search for the program type.
The system sta r ts sea r ching th r ough all f r equency fo r a
match. When it finds one, the sea r ch sto p s and the
station p lays fo r five seconds.
5 If you want to keep listening to the station, press
ENTER within the five seconds.
If you don’t pr ess ENTER , sea r ching r esumes.
If NO PTY is dis p layed it means the tune r couldn’t find
that pr og r am ty p e at the time of the sea r ch.

button to dis p lay the diffe r ent ty p es of RDS
info r mation available.

• Press DISP for RDS information.
Each pr ess changes the dis p lay as follows:
• Radio Text ( RT ) – Messages sent by the r adio station.
Fo r exam p le, a talk r adio station may pr ovide a p hone
numbe r as RT.
• P r og r am Se r vice Name (
PS
) – The name of the r adio
station.
• P r og r am Ty p e ( PTY ) – This indicates the kind of
pr og r am cu rr ently being b r oadcast.
• Cu rr ent tune r f r equency.

INFO
– Gene r al Info r mation
SPORT – S p o r t
EDUCATE – Educational
DRAMA – Radio p lays, etc.
