2. Installation of the #SB-SM1 4-Arm Manway Mount:
Choose a location where installation will provide suitable proximity to the work area yet minimize obstructions during
use and in the event a rescue is necessary.
•WhenutilizedasaFallArrestTowerAnchorage:
Install the mount so that the tower to be utilized will clear
all obstructions yet provide full access to all required work areas within the towers’s safe working radius.
**Once a location is chosen, Ensure that the manway to which the mount will be attached is
capable of withstanding all of the forces imparted to it by the proof-loaded system (Refer to
Section 5.1 of this manual).
a.
Loosen any mounting hardware to which the 4 arms of the manway mount will be bolted to.
b.
Position the mount so that each pivoting arm is angled to their respective corners (Refer to Fig. #5.2c & #5.2d).
c.
Secure the mount by sliding the slider blocks within the arms to the mounting holes on the manway (Refer to Fig.
#5.2e).
d.
Ensure that the mounting base of the #SB-SM1 is as close to the center of the manway as possible.
e.
Tighten all hardware to standard dry torques according to the size of the mounting hardware.
! WARNING !
- Mounting hardware must be greater or equal to 1/2” in diameter!
f.
Check to see and ensure that the arms of the manway mount sit flush to the manway cover and all hardware is
tightened.

mounted on the selected manway before
attaching any lifeline or additional fall arrest
system components.

Each corner of the base plate of the Model #SB-
SM1 Fall Arrest Tower base must be located above its respective
“arm” when the system is installed (Refer to Figure #5.2d). The
system is not approved for usage when any of the “arms” lie outside
of the angular boundaries dictated by the plate’s corners.

the loads imparted to it by the device when
proof-loaded. There is a limitless variety
of manway configurations and address

ing each potential scenario is beyond the
scope of this manual. A “qualified person”
must approve each attachment point.
