Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of your Orchid Low Radiation DECT cordless telephone.
When not in use your phone automatically switches off the transmission of ‘pulsed
microwave radiation’ (after a call is completed) and only re-activates when you make
or receive a call. If the handset senses that it’s close to the base station when making or
receiving a call your Orchid phone automatically reduces its power level by up to 75%.
There is also a power level option switch on the base station that permanently reduces
base the transmission power by up to 75%.
The phone re-activates when it receives an incoming call or when any key is pressed to
make a call.
NB:
If you Press the “Handset Symbol” to get a line before dialling “Wait…” will be
displayed on the LCD and you will get a line within a few seconds. If however you
pre-dial a number on the handset and then press the “Handset Symbol” to make a call,
there will be no delay. The small delay is SlickSwitch® re-activating the phone after a
period of inactivity.
Transmission output from the base station when in use
On the bottom of the base station there is a switch to control the transmission power
when a call is made or received. When the switch is set to “Low Radiation” the Base
Station and handset output is reduced by up to 75%. This feature is ideal for an open plan
office environment or when the full range is not required.
When the switch is set to “Automatic” on the Base Station you have the maximum range
available up to 50m indoors and 300m line of sight outdoors. In “Automatic” the phones
DRR (Dynamic Range Reduction) feature, will be activated. This allows the handset to
adjust the transmission power to maximize the range between handset and the Base.
Typically, if the handset is near the Base Station the output power of the Base Station will
be reduced by up to 75% and the Low Radiation LED will be lit. If the handset is further
away from the Base Station, in order to maintain the communication quality, the Base
Station output power will switch to normal and the Low Radiation LED will be switched
off.
Transmission output of the handset
If the handset is used within 25 metre of the base station, the output power will be
automatically reduced by up to 75% and the display range antenna symbol on the LCD
will be quite small. If using the handset outside this 25 metre range, the handset output
will increase accordingly and the symbol will become bolder.
Range
The Orchid’s telephone’s range can be affected by walls, partitions or other obstruc- tions
between the base station unit and the handset(s). Optimum range can only be achieved if
there are no obstacles between the handset and the base station.
When the transmission power switch on your base station is set to ‘Automatic’, the
effective range can vary between 50 and 300 meters. When switched to the ‘Low
Radiation’ position the range is reduced. Ideally the base station should be placed in a
slightly raised elevation to maximize range.
If the handset is taken beyond the set range during a call, a warning signal sounds. If the
handset can’t be brought closer to the base station the connection may be lost.
