Features
General
The ONKYO Digital Surround processor ED-301 is a product that fills
your home with the excitement of Dolby Digital and Dolby Surround
soundtracks by using up to six loudspeakers including a subwoofer,
generating sound fields optimized for your room.
The ED-301 also features the Cinema Re-EQ circuit for the reproduc-
tion of cinema soundtracks at home, the Midnight Theater function for
low sound volume playing late at night, and the LFE (Low Frequency
Effects) function for comfortable bass range reproduction.
What's Dolby Digital?
Dolby Digital is a new-generation digital audio format for multi-
channel surround audio.
Adding to conventional five full range channels, Dolby Digital supports
one LFE (Low Frequency Effects) channel, which is used solely for
correcting the bass range through an independent subwoofer. Dolby
Digital is sometimes referred to as 5.1-channel format since this LFE
channel is calculated as 0.1.
This fully discrete 5.1-channel Dolby Digital format can deliver sound
of wide and dynamic range, reproducing theater-like sound fields in
your room.

Digital and Dolby Pro Logic decoding
The ED-301 can decode both 5.1-channel sounds from software
having Dolby Digital encoded soundtracks such as DVDs and
Dolby Pro Logic format stereo media such as LDs, video cassette
tapes and satellite broadcasts.
5.1-channel input
The ED-301 can receive multi-channel (analog) signals directly
from other format (DTS, MPEG Multichannel, etc.) decoders and
output to amplifiers.
Two types of 5.1-channel audio output
5.1-channel signals can be output in two ways. You can use either the
independent multi-channel audio output jacks (RCA type) or the DB-
25 connector compatible with ONKYO TX-SV919THX/TX-
SV828THX Surround Receiver.
Motorola 24-bit DSP (56009)
The ED-301 incorporates the latest technology Motorola DSP chip
as the Dolby Digital decoder.
Two lines of input each for digital and analog connection
The ED-301 has two digital input terminals, one for connection
using a coaxial cable and the other for connection using an optical
cable. It also features dual audio (analog) and video input lines, so
you can select from two input modes.
Cinema Re-EQ
**
circuit
Re-Equalization takes the edginess or "brighteness" out of your
home cinema sound, compensating for the fact that sound mixed for
theaters will sound too bright when played back through speakers
in the home environment.
Midnight Theater function
This function is provided for playing at night. It narrows the
dynamic range to reproduce comfortable sound at low volumes.
LFE (Low Frequency Effects) function
This function reduces overemphasized bass sound by attenuating
the low-frequency range by 10 dB.
