CHAPTER 4
50
Connecting the Odyssey Imager to a Network
4)
Turn on the Odyssey
®
Imager and computer, but don’t start the
Odyssey Application Software.
Note:
When the Odyssey Imager and computer start up, they will be assigned an IP
address automatically by your DHCP server. This can take as long as 5 minutes and it
is best to wait for addresses to be assigned before starting Odyssey software.
5)
Start the Odyssey software on the computer. You should now be
able to use the Odyssey instrument normally.
Note:
When Odyssey software is restarted, it goes through its autodiscovery routine
again. It will find an Odyssey instrument with the same serial number it recognized
previously, but with a different IP address.
On networks with DHCP servers, automatic address changes can
cause occasional loss of communication with the Odyssey Imager.
One way to avoid this problem is to enter a static IP address in the
Odyssey Imager. Some networks also do not use DHCP servers so
automatic addressing is not an option. This section shows you how
to set up either a static or automatic (DHCP) IP address in the
Odyssey Imager or the computer. A static address must be assigned
by your network administrator. The addresses shown in this section
are for illustration only.
Configuring the Odyssey Imager with a Static or
Automatic (DHCP) IP Address
Start by assembling one of the configurations described earlier in this
chapter.
1)
Press the
Next
button on the Odyssey front panel.
2)
Write down the current IP address when it is displayed. The IP
address is four groups of three numbers separated by periods. The
slash followed by another number is not part of the IP address.
