CHAPTER 4

Connecting the Odyssey Imager to a Network
8)
In the Scanner Login window, choose your scanner and enter the
name and password of an account with
Administrator
access
rights.
If you can log in, you are properly connected and communicating
with the Odyssey
®
Imager. If login fails, you are not connected
because the IP address in the Odyssey Imager has probably been
changed by your DHCP server. Follow the instructions below in
Connecting Other Computers on the Network
to determine the
current Odyssey IP address and enter it in the Odyssey software
(scanner settings). It is also possible that there is no connection
between the two networks, in which case you will not be able to
connect with the Odyssey Imager.
At some interval, the addresses assigned by a DHCP server expire
and new addresses are assigned. If this interval is long, it will cause
little impact when using the Odyssey Imager. When the address is
changed by the DHCP server, you may have a temporary communi-
cation problem with the Odyssey Imager that can be solved by either
restarting the Odyssey software, or opening the scanner settings
(
Settings > Scanners
) and clicking
Autodiscover
in the Scanner List
window. If the interval for address expiration is short, you may find it
easier to use a static IP address in the Odyssey Imager to avoid loss
of communication. See
Configuring the Odyssey Imager with a Static
or Automatic (DHCP) IP Address
later in this chapter.
