3.13 Pivot Shaft Replacement
1. Unplug the unit and remove the shrouds to access the inside. Follow the directions below for each side of the
machine (left and right pivot shafts). Figure 3.20 illustrates the pivot shaft assembly on the right side of the
machine.
2. Remove the handlebar cover from the handlebar pivot point by pulling it gently away from the machine.
3. Use a 6mm hex wrench to remove the four (4) hex head bolts that attach the arm to the pivot shaft hub; remove the
handlebar.
4. Use an 8mm hex wrench to remove the two (2) hex head screws and the washers that attach the rocker arm to the
pivot shaft.
5. Remove the retaining ring and the washer from the end of the pivot shaft; slide the shaft out. The shaft fits snugly;
you may need to tap it gently to remove it.
6. Insert a new pivot shaft, replace the washer and the spring washer (on the outside surface) and re-secure it with a
retaining ring.
7. Position the rocker arm and re-insert the two hex-head screws that attach it to the pivot shaft. Use an 8mm hex
wrench to tighten the screws.
8. Position the handlebar and attach it to the pivot shaft hub with the four (4) 6mm hex head bolts.
Make sure these
bolts are very tight.
9. Move the handlebars forward and backward a few times; they should feel tight with no side-to-side motion.
10. Position the handlebar cover over the handlebar pivot point and press it firmly onto the machine.
11. Replace the shrouds and secure with shroud screws.
