Super Claws Model LS-2
OPERATION/SHUTDOWN
MAR/2006 (4945-3500)
Section 4-3
WORK OPERATION
Once the machine has been propelled or towed
to the worksite, work can begin as follows:
1. Make certain all STARTUP procedures have
been followed before beginning working
operations.
IMPORTANT
: IN THE EVENT OF AN
EMERGENCY, PRESS THE EMERGENCY
STOP PUSHBUTTON ON THE MAIN
CONTROL PANEL. This is the fastest way
to shutdown the machine.
2. With engine running at full rpm, hold the
"CLAW PIN/FRAME PIN" switch in the
DOWN (FRAME PIN)
position until the
frame lockpins can be removed.
3. Hold the "CLAW PIN/FRAME PIN" switch in
the
UP (CLAW PIN)
position until the claw
housing lockpins can be removed.
4. Make any required adjustments as described
under SET-UP in this section.
5. Place the RAIL/TIE work switch in the
desired work position and follow the
appropriate procedures below:
NOTE
If the claws do not open enough to clear
spike head, adjust as described in under
CLAW OPENING CONTROL.
NOTE
In the RAIL WORK mode, the pulling
head will return to the preset down position
whenever the joystick is released from the
"Pull" position.
RAIL WORK
1. Propel the machine to the first tie location
and use the rocker switch on top of the
joystick to spot the pulling head.
2. Move joystick inward (toward yourself) to the
"Close" position to close claws on spike
head. When the claws are under the spike,
pull back on joystick fully to lift spike.
3. When the spike clears the tie plate, release
the joystick (the head will automatically
return to the preset down position).
4. Propel to next tie location and repeat steps
(2) and (3).
TIE WORK
When spikes are to be pulled from randomly
selected ties, the tie work mode should be used.
This mode is similar to rail work, except that the
pulling head remains in the preset up position
after each pull and must be lowered by the
joystick. To pull spikes in the tie work mode,
proceed as follows:
1. Propel the machine to the first tie location
and use the rocker switch on top of the
joystick to spot the pulling head.
2. Push the joystick forward to move head to
preset "Down" position. The head will
continue down at a slower rate as long as
the joystick is held forward.
3. Move joystick inward (toward yourself) to
move claws to "Close" position. When claws
are under spike head, pull back on joystick
fully to pull spike.
4. When spike clears tie plate, release joystick
(when the joystick is released or the upper
limit switch is reached, the head stops and
the claws open).
5.
Propel to next desired tie location and repeat
steps (2) through (5).
EMERGENCY STOPPING
The emergency shutdown should be used
only when the engine does not respond to
the normal stop engine procedure or in the
event of an emergency where time is critical.
To shut down the engine, push the
EMERGENCY STOP pushbutton located in the
upper center of the Logic Box control panel or on
either Remote Operator Control Box.
Never use the emergency shutdown system
except in an emergency.
DO NOT USE THIS
METHOD AS A SHORTCUT TO TURNING OFF
THE ENGINE!!
