Features and
Options
The laser series includes the following features and options:
•
Thermal Tuning – varies the wavelength using coarse thermal control of the
laser substrate.
•
Piezo Tuning – achieves fast wavelength modulation with finer control.
•
Polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber – To maintain polarization, the optical
output is transmitted over PM fiber. For other output fiber types, contact NKT
Photonics.
•
Wavelength modulation – the wavelength can be modulated using either an
external or internal signal.
•
Power or Current modes – the lasers can operate in either constant power or
constant current mode.
•
Adjustable output power (X15 variant only) – if this option is specified, the
laser output can be amplitude modulated from either an internal generator or
an external signal.
•
Emission features – multiple features that control emission availability from
the laser.
Tuning
Tuning is accomplished by either manual thermal tuning or using an external
signal applied at the laser’s fast wavelength modulation input pins. A varying
external signal applied to the pins, modulates the output wavelength. Modulating
the output wavelength can obtain improved stabilization as compared to the
free-running wavelength specification.
Output fiber
The standard output of the laser utilizes polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber,
improving the linear characteristics of the laser. Polarization linearity is vital when
the laser output is either externally modulated or frequency converted. See
“Optical fibers, connectors and adapters” on page 31
Manual restart
The laser includes a keyswitch to prevent unauthorized emission. The keyswitch also
works in conjunction with the laser’s safety functionality. For example, when emission
is automatically disabled due to a safety interlock fault, the laser cannot be started
again after the fault is rectified. An operator must first acknowledge the alarm raised
by manually cycling the keyswitch from the ON to OFF to ON positions to permit a
restart (enable) of the laser’s emission.
High power variants
High power ADJUSTIK HP variants extend the output power of the laser up to 2W.
