5 // CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
5.1 Before first use
• Before the first use, disassemble the breast pump, bottle and the accessories into all individual parts (point 4
“Disassembly and assembly”) and sterilise everything in boiling water for 5 minutes; afterwards, remove the parts
and let them cool down. When sterilising in boiling water, please always ensure there is a sufficient volume of
liquid in the pot so that the articles are not damaged.
5.2 After every use and once per day
• After every use, disassemble the breast pump, bottle and the accessories into all individual parts (point 4
“Disassembly and assembly”) and clean it using washing-up liquid.
• Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents or coarse / hard brushes / sponges for the cleaning. Do not use any
aids such as brushes to clean the vent (8) as they might damage the vent.
• It is recommended to clean the parts directly after expression so that the breast milk does not dry up and the
growth of bacteria is prevented.
• Alternatively, all parts except for parts made of silicone (breast cushion (2), cylinder (6), vent (8) and teat (13)) can
be cleaned in the dishwasher. Small parts such as the piston (5) should only be cleaned in the cutlery basket of
the dishwasher or by hand.
• When cleaned in the dishwasher, food residues may cause discolouration of the materials and material abrasion is
possible.
• When using suitable disinfection devices or agents, please observe the manufacturer’s instructions to prevent
damage to the product.
• Following the cleaning, all parts are to be disinfected. You can sterilise the individual parts in boiling water for
5 minutes or disinfect them using a steriliser or microwave steriliser (please observe the manufacturer’s
instructions). When sterilising in boiling water, please always ensure there is a sufficient volume of liquid in the pot
so that the articles are not damaged.
• After the disinfection, let all individual parts dry well before re-assembling them.
• Store all individual parts in a hygienic manner (clean and dry) in a place where they are protected from light.
6 // USE
6.1 Expressing breast milk
• Remove any body jewellery worn at the breast (e.g. piercing) as well as oil-based and fatty ointments and clean
the breast with clear water before use.
• First of all, set the efficiency level (point 4 “Disassembly and assembly” / efficiency levels).
• Screw the container (10) to the pump ensuring a good seat and remove the hygiene cap (1) from the pump.
• Put the breast shield onto the breast. Make sure that the nipple is in the centre of the shield. This prevents the
nipple from getting sore.
• Slightly press the shield against the breast so that no air can enter at the side and a vacuum is generated.
• Now start pumping using the handle (4). In addition to the efficiency levels, you can also influence the pump
performance here by pressing the handle completely or only partially.
CAUTION!
• Only pump as much milk into the container so that the vent (8) does not get into contact with the collected milk in
the container.
• If you plan to freeze the breast milk, do not fill the container over 150 mL as the milk will expand during freezing
(risk of bursting!). For more information on the storage of breast milk, refer to point 7 “Storage”.
• After the expression, put the pump onto a stable surface so that it does not fall over. If the pump falls over, the
breast milk may run out.
• Screw the container off the pump and close it tightly using the supplied cover.
• Immediately after expression, clean all parts as described under point 5 “Cleaning and disinfection”.
6.2 Feeding expressed breast milk
• Screw the container with the expressed breast milk off the pump.
• Mount the teat (13) on the screw ring (12) until it fits tightly.
• Screw the screw ring incl. the teat onto the bottle.
7 // STORAGE
The breast milk can be chilled, frozen, thawed and heated up in the breast milk container. To do this, please observe
the following information when handling breast milk. To use the container as a bottle, you require a nip
®
first moments
teat, screw ring and a cap.
Please observe the following information when handling breast milk:
Thawing the breast milk:
You can leave the breast milk to thaw carefully in the freezer or at room temperature. If you allow the breast milk to
thaw at room temperature, please feed directly afterwards. If you have to thaw the milk quickly, you can do this in a
lukewarm water bath (max. 37 °C). In this case, please feed directly afterwards.
CAUTION:
Breast milk may not be thawed in the microwave as valuable components are lost.
Important information:
• Do not refreeze thawed, heated or unused breast milk. Dispose of this.
• Shake the container lightly before feeding to mix the heat, as well as the breast milk and milk fat.
• If you express breast milk several times within 24 hours, the freshly expressed breast milk can be poured into
already chilled breast milk. Please allow the fresh breast milk to cool first and only pour them together once it has
reached the same temperature as the chilled breast milk (cold on cold).
• When transporting the breast milk, please ensure that the chill chain is adhered to.
• Only heat the breast milk container when it is open (risk of explosion)!
• You can ask your breastfeeding counsellor, midwife, doctor or pharmacist for precise instructions about long-term
storage.
Use the nip
®
baby food warmer to heat the breast milk to the correct drinking temperature of approx. 37 °C. Before
using in the baby food warmer, please remove the screw ring and teat from the bottle. Always check the temperature
of the foodstuff before feeding.
8 // COMPATIBILITY
The nip
®
manual milk pump is part of the nip
®
first
moments All-in-One system.
The All-in-One system allows you to directly pump the
breast milk into the container without an adapter and
to store it safely. To feed your child the breast milk,
you need only to remove the cover, heat the breast
milk (point 7 “Storage”) and screw on the screw ring
and the naturally formed teat.
In addition, every hand milk pump includes a white adapter (9). This adapter allows you to pump milk directly into a
nip
®
wide-neck bottle if you do not have any nip
®
first moments wide-neck bottles.
