Note:
In order to comply with the EMC directives, unused output
ports must be terminated with a 75 ohm termination plug.
(Two termination plugs are delivered together with the SDI
Transport module.)
SDI Video Access Module
The SDI Video Access Module offers 270 Mbps SDI interfaces to the Nimbra,
allowing full uncompressed SDI signals to be transported over the network based
on the ITU-R BT.601/656 (SMPTE 259-C) video standards. The SDI Video
Access module uses 563 slots per SDI channel.
The module also supports the Serial Data Transport Interface (SDTI), according
to SMPTE 305M, for carrying data within the 270 Mbps signal.
The SDI Video Access Module includes two Transmit and two Receive SDI
ports. A Receive port takes an SDI or SDTI signal and maps it into a fixed size
network channel that is transported across the backplane of the Nimbra, across
the network and to one or several Transmit SDI ports in other nodes. The system
also allows for setting up a channel to Transmit ports in the same Nimbra or
even to the same Module.
The SDI physical interfaces, Transmit and Receive, are 75 Ohm, BNC
connectors.
For the SDI Video Access Module, to each port pair there is one monitoring port
which also uses a 75 Ohm, BNC connector. The monitoring port can be
configured via a switch button on the front panel, to copy either incoming or
outgoing data from the in/out port pair. It can thus be used to either monitor that
a correct signal arrives to the in-port, or be used to copy the outgoing data,
effectively providing a "bi-casting" function on the outgoing signal.
Multicast is a way to transport data from one single source to many destinations
without any need to duplicate data on multiple channels. A multicast channel can
be terminated on ports on several SDI Video Access Modules in the same
Nimbra. However, the same multicast channel cannot be terminated on both TX
ports on the same SDI module. It is possible to duplicate the Tx signal using the
monitoring ports of the SDI Video Access Module.
The front panel of the module is shown below.
Figure 15. Front panel
The module provides four video ports (two input and two output) and two
monitoring ports. Refer to chapter Specifications for data.
In normal operation the Power LED is lit and the Remove indicator LED is off.
The Request removal button is used when the Module should be replaced.
Status indicator LEDs provide information about the status of the respective
port. Refer to the Specifications chapter for more information about the
indicators.
The two Monitor select buttons are used to toggle the monitor ports between
incoming and outgoing streams.
To insert, connect or replace the SDI Access module, refer to chapter Hardware
Maintenance.
