SETTING UP THE SYSTEM

USER GUIDE
Allow the Lamps to Cool Before Powering OFF
The dryer lamps should be allowed to cool for at least 5 minutes (fan on top running)
before the main dryer lamp power switch [6] is turned off. If this procedure is not
followed, lamp (bulb) life will be reduced. Never touch the bulbs with your bare hands
(even if they are cool). Oils from your skin will cause damage to the lamps.
See “Cleaning” section.
Positioning the Dryer Over the Media:
The dryer should be positioned so the media print area (wet ink) travels directly under the
infrared lamps. Loosen the two securing screws [3], slide the dryer to the desired position, then
tighten the screws [3]. If necessary; the dryer can be angled to cover a wider area.
The height of the dryer can also be adjusted using the two knobs [1]. Make sure the media does
not contact the dryer housing or lamps.
In Case of a Jam:
If a media jam occurs under the dryer sensor, the lamps will remain active (ON). If this should
occur; press any of the Emergency STOP buttons to shut down the system immediately. Then
clear the jam and restart the system.
If a jam or media hesitation occurs under the dryer lamps; press any of the Emergency STOP
buttons to shut down the system immediately. Then clear the jam and restart the system.
In Case of a Fire:
WARNING:
Media that hesitates or jams under the dryer lamps may ignite. To help avoid a fire;
if a media jam or hesitation should occur, immediately press any of the Emergency STOP
buttons to shut down the system. In addition, the risk of fire can be reduced by using a lower
lamp intensity setting. A Fire Extinguisher (rated for energized electrical equipment and
wood/paper/plastic/cloth fires) must be within reach at all times.
If a fire should occur on the dryer or under the dryer lamps:
1. Press any of the red “Emergency Stop” buttons to immediately shut down the system.
2. Quickly and carefully extinguish the fire. If needed; call for emergency response.
3. Disconnect all power from the system.
4. Contact your authorized Dealer to schedule a service call. The system should be
inspected for damage, cleaned, and repaired; before power is reconnected to the
system.
Dryer Lamp Control Process:
If all the activation control conditions, shown below, are met; when media interrupts the dryer
sensor, the 24V dryer safety circuit is activated, allowing the lamps to turn on. At that moment a
count-down timer, in the XPS-ProMail base, is started. If the dryer sensor is not interrupted by
additional media, the timer shuts off the 24V output, which shuts off the dryer lamps.
Adjusting the Count-Down Timer Value
: The length of time that the dryer lamps remain
active, after the media exits from under the dryer sensor, is adjustable. Please contact your
authorized Dealer if a change is desired. Do NOT set this value for more than a few seconds. If
the lamps remain on with no media present, dryer belt damage can occur.
