SMB Modem Transport Logging (Console)

WorldMark 4300 Server Management Product Manual

SMB Modem Transport Logging (Console)

To assist in troubleshooting out-of-band problems, an extensive logging system was implemented
within the SMB Modem Transport. Logging is enabled by adding several entries to the Server
Monitor INI file. To enable logging to both a file and a window, you would edit the
SERVMON.INI file (located in the Windows NT directory) and then in the [SMB Modem
Preferences] section of SERVMON.INI, enter the following:

   LogFile=c:\temp\smbtr.log

   LogFileBak=c:\temp\smbtr.bak

   LogFileMaxSize=2048000

   LogLevel=8

   LogWindow=1

Then stop and start the console. View the log file for trace information.

The following table lists each keyword and its description:

Keyword

Definition

LogFile

The file name where log messages will be written. To skip
logging to a file, leave this key blank.

LogFileBak

When a log file reaches the maximum size or when logging
is started, the previous log file is renamed to this filename.

LogFileMaxSize

The maximum number of bytes that the logging routines will

allow the log file to grow. When the log file exceeds this
size, it will be renamed to the LogFileBak name and a new
log file will be started.

LogLevel

The level of detail included within the log file. The levels can
be classified as follows:

0 = Fatal error messages

1 = Alert messages

2 = Critical messages

3 = Error messages

4 = Warning messages

5 = Notice messages

6 = Informational messages

7 = Trace messages

8 = Debug messages

Each level includes all the previous levels. Setting the level
to 8 includes all types of messages.

LogWindow

Indicates that logging should be displayed into a window.

0 = log window turned off

1 = normal log window

2 = log window always on top
