Wash the motorcycle with water, a mild detergent
and a sponge. Wipe the motorcycle with a soft
cloth. Use an air jet to dry difficult-to-reach areas.
CAUTION
• Avoid using abrasive cloths or sponges
which have been in contact with strong
detergents, such as solvents or gasoline.
• To avoid irreparable damage to the
front fairing, never use alkaline or
strongly acid detergents, gasoline,
brake fluid or other solvents. Clean the
front fairing only with a soft cloth, warm
water and a neutral detergent.
• If you have doubts about the chemical
composition of the detergent, test its
effect by applying it on a little area of the
fairing before using it on the whole bike.
• If the fairings of your bike have a matt
painting, avoid using polishing prod-
ucts such as abrasive paste, “polish” or
wax. These products could alter the
homogeneity of the painting.
• After riding on roads treated with cor-
rosive substances (salt), wash the vehi-
cle as soon as possible with cold water.
Do not use hot water as it enhances the
corrosive action.
WARNING: Avoid smearing brakes or
tires with oil or wax. If necessary, clean
the brake discs with a brake disc deter-
gent or with acetone, and wash the tires
with warm water and a neutral detergent.
After completing the washing, run the
engine for a few minutes and start off at
reduced speed. Carefully apply the
brakes a few times so as to dry the brake
pads and discs. Failure to heed this warn-
ing can cause reduction of braking effi-
ciency and risk of accidents, which could
lead to serious injury and even death.
WARNING: The drive chain must be cor-
rectly lubricated after washing the
motorcycle, following the instructions
provided at § 6.10. of this manual.
Failure to heed this warning can lead to,
among other things, rear wheel lockup
with subsequent loss of control and
serious injury or even death.
