Appendix H: Outputs and Copy Protection
Output to Display Monitor: MonitorLink™, DVI & YPbPr
The HD- HDTV Receiver/Controller is a TV receiver for both analog and digital channels as well as a control
center that will select among various traditional analog and new digital IEEE devices and send those signals to a
display monitor. The HD- will send these signals to the display monitor through the MonitorLink/DVI output or
the Output to Display YPbPr component video outputs. The YPbPr outputs are not functional when MonitorLink/DVI
is connected. Below are listed the signal types and effects of copy protection flags on the output of the HD-.
MonitorLink Output to Display
When connected directly to a Mitsubishi HD upgradeable plasma display monitor, LCD TV or rear projection TV
by MonitorLink, the HD- will automatically be compatible and send signals at the best possible scan rate. In
most cases, the scan rate will be i, however all signals received in high definition will be sent to the Mitsubishi
MonitorLink monitor in high definition. Signals with copy protection flags will not be blocked or resolution-restricted.
DVI Output to Display
When connected to another manufacturers’s monitor using MonitorLink as a DVI source, the signal will be compatible
with the E-EDID (Enhanced-Extended Display Identification) compliant standards for HD video and may not be
compatible with some monitors designed for computer resolutions only. If the monitor is HDCP compliant, no signals
will be blocked because of copy protection signals. If the monitor is not HDCP compliant, copy protected signals will be
blocked. If MonitorLink/DVI is not connected these signals may still be available from the YPbPr outputs. Some copy
protected signals from the YPbPr may be resolution restricted.
When connected as a DVI output, MonitorLink will automatically query the display monitor to establish the best
compatible scanning rates. If your display monitor is designed to show i or p signals from DVI sources but only
shows p signals in all situations from the HD-, check first that your display monitor is compliant with EIA-
standard for HD video and that it is also compliant with HDCP copy protection protocol. If your monitor matches both,
please call your dealer, service company or Mitsubishi for assistance in changing the output scan rate of the HD-.
The type of connecter used on the HD- is DVI-I dual link. The signal the HD- sends is DVI-D single link.
Be sure your monitor accepts this connector.
MonitorLink™ Output when Used With DVI
Suggested scan rates: 1080i, 480p, 480
HDCP compliant
E-EDID (Enhanced-Extended Display Identification) 1.3 compliant
DVI-D uncompressed, high-speed, digital single-link connection
YPbPr Output to Display
The YPbPr Output to Display is always active and will send signals in either p or i scan rate format. These will
be compatible with most HD monitors currently available.
