Closed Captions Menu
(Figure 20)
On analog channels (Ant-A or Ant-B or from Inputs
-), broadcasters can send either Standard or Text
closed captioning. Standard Closed Captions follow the
dialogue of the characters on-screen and display in small
sections of the screen. Text Closed Captions often contain
information such as weather or news and cover a large
portion of the screen. The Analog Captions selection
will select what type of analog closed captions will be
displayed.
On digital channels (Ant-DTV) broadcasters can send up
to different digital closed captions selections.
Additionally, the broadcaster may send analog, digital or
analog “converted” to digital captions. If the broadcaster
is sending both digital and the converted analog closed
captions, the HDTV Receiver will decode only the digital
captions. If the broadcaster is sending only the converted
form of the analog closed captions, then the HDTV
Analog Captions Menu will select which of these captions
will be decoded.
The Digital Captions Menu will select which of the
possible diferent digital captions will be decoded.
If the broadcaster is sending only the converted analog
closed captions on the digital channel, then the analog
setting applies.

The content of captions is determined by the
broadcaster. If your captions show strange
characters, misspellings, or odd grammar, it
is not a malfunction of the TV.
IMPORTANT
When analog Text closed captioning is
selected, a large black or gray box appears
on your display monitor screen if no signal is
broadcast.
