Glossary

The following definitions apply specifically to printers.

bitmap

A text character or graphic image that is defined by a pattern of dots.

control panel

Allows you to make various settings.
The LCD display shows the current status of the printer.

dpi

Acronym for dots per inch. Refers to the resolution that the printer
can produce through the measure of dots printed per inch.

duplex unit

An optional accessory of the printer that facilitates printing on both
sides of a sheet of paper (double-sided printing).

5-bin mail-bin

An optional accessory of the printer that utilizes up to five bins for
outputting printed documents from the printer.

fusing unit

A part of the printer that fixes the toner image onto the paper.

gray scale

A series of shades ranging from black to white used to add detail to
photo or scanned images, etc.

guide rail molding

A fixture that is attached onto the printer and is used to help
facilitate the installation and operation of the guiding rail.

guiding rail

halftone

A printing technique using a pattern of dots to compose an image.
Also known as dithering.

horizontal transport unit

This unit facilitates the transfer of printed documents from the
