If the electrics in the engine compart‐
ment, the battery or the fuses are tam‐
pered with or if the battery is disconnec‐
ted.

Always deactivate the HOLD function
and secure the vehicle against rolling
away before leaving the vehicle.

NOTE Damage from automatic braking
When Active Brake Assist, Active Distance
Assist DISTRONIC or the HOLD function are
activated, the vehicle brakes autonomously
in certain situations.
To avoid damage to the vehicle, deactivate
these systems in the following or similar sit‐
uations:

During towing
#
In a car wash
Requirements:

The vehicle is stationary.
R
The driver's door is closed or the seat belt on
the driver's side is fastened.
R
The engine is running or has been automati‐
cally switched off by the ECO start/stop
function.
R
The electric parking brake is released.
R
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is not acti‐
vated.

The transmission is in position

Activating the HOLD function

Depress the brake pedal and after a short
time depress further until the

appears in the multifunction display.

Release the brake pedal.
Deactivating the HOLD function

Depress the accelerator pedal to pull away.

In the following situations, the vehicle is held by
the transmission position

When the seat belt is unfastened and the
driver's door is opened.

When the engine is switched off.

When there is a malfunction in the system or
if the power supply is insufficient.
