C onsum er Inform ation
This has been prepared as re
quired of all m anufacturers of
passenger cars under T itle 49,
C ode of U.S. Federal R egulations,
Part 575 pursuant to the ’’ N at
ional T raffic and M otor V ehicle
Safety Act of 1 9 6 6 ” .
U niform T ire Quality G rading
Refer to the tire sidew all for the
specific tire grades for the tires
with w hich this ve hicle is
equipped.
All passenger car tires m ust c o n
form to federal safety re q u ire
m ents in addition to these grades.
T readw ear
The treadw ear grade is a co m
parative rating based on the w ear
rate of the tire w hen tested under
controlled c o nd itio ns on a s p e c i
fied g overnm ent test course. For
exam ple, a tire graded 150 w ould
w ear one and o ne -h alf (

)
tim es as well on the gove rn m e nt
course as a tire graded 100. The
relative perform ance of tires de
pends upon the actual co nd itio ns
of their use, how ever, and may
d ep art sig n ific a n tly from the norm
due to va riatio n s in d rivin g habits,
service p ra ctices and differen ce s
in road c h a ra cte ristics and
clim ate.
Traction " A " , ” B ” , ” C ”
The traction grades, from highest
to lowest, are ” A ” , ” B ” , and ” C ” ,
and they represent the tire ’s a b i
lity to stop on w et p avem ent as
m easured under c o ntrolle d c o n
d itio ns on specified gove rn m e nt
test surfaces of a sph alt and c o n
crete. A tire m arked ” C ” m ay have
poor traction perform ance.
tested under co ntrolle d conditions
on a specified indoor laboratory
test w heel. S ustained high tem pe
rature can cause the m aterial of
the tire to degenerate and reduce
tire life, and e xcessive te m p era
ture can lead to sudden tire fa il
ure. The grade ” C ” corresponds
to a level of perform ance w hich all
passenger car tires m ust m eet
under the Federal M otor V ehicle
Safety S tandard No. 109. G rades
” B ” and ” A ” represent higher
levels of perform ance on the
laboratory test w heel than the
m inim um required by law.
W arning!
T h e tractio n g rad e assigned to
this tire is based on braking
(straig ht a h e ad ) tractio n tests
and does not in clu d e c o rn e r
ing (tu rn in g ) traction.
Tem p eratu re ” A ” , ” B ” , ” C ”
The tem p era ture gra de s are ” A ”
(the highest), ” B ” , and ” C ” , re
presenting the tire ’s resistance to
the g en eratio n of heat and its
ab ility to dissip ate heat w hen
W arning!
T h e te m p e ra tu re g rade fo r this
tire is estab lish ed fo r a tire
th a t is properly inflated and
not overloaded. Excessive
speed , u n d erin flation , or ex
cessive loading, e ith e r s ep a
rately or in com bination, can
cau se excessive heat build up
and possible tire failure.
