Starting and Turning off the Engine
Engage parking brake or service
brake before starting the engine.
Place the gear se le cto r lever in either
“ N” or “ P” position before starting the
engine.

Turn key in steering lock to position
“ 2” . C harge in d ica tor and preglow ing
in d ic a to r lig h t m ust com e on.
The preglow ing process then begins.
The engine can be started as soon as
the preglow ing in d ic a to r lig h t has
gone out. S ince the glow plugs
continue glow ing fo r up to
1.5 m inutes, the engine can be
restarted du rin g this period w ithout
preglow ing again.
W hen the engine is at operating
te m p e ra tu re (coolant te m perature
above a pprox. 158° F = 70° C) the
preglow ing in d ic a to r lig h t com es on
only briefly. The engine can be started
im m ediately.
Turn key clockw ise to the stop to start
the engine. Release key only when the
engine is running sm oothly.
At am b ie n t te m p e ra tu re s of less than
- 4° F (-20° C), depress the
acce le ra to r three tim es p rio r to
starting.
