General information
Read the instruction carefully. The product should be fitted by a medical professional
like an occupational therapist, physical therapist, orthopedic technician or a medical
doctor. Patients with diabetes, circulatory problems or sensitive skin should consult their
doctor before use. If the patient is allergic, check the material content on the white label.
Function
The DYFEX
®
concept has been developed and patented by Mediroyal. It consists of a
malleable frame to support the lower arm, wrist, fingers and thumb in conjunction with
two inflatable bladders. These bladders are integrated on the finger platform and work
together to provide support to the transversal and longitudinal arches. The bladders
complement the function of the finger platform by providing a dynamic extension of the
fingers. A constant and slow elongation of the flexor tendons, changes the sensitivity of
the receptors. That way the threshold for triggering spasticity will be higher.
· The first bladder is placed directly under the MCP-joints to support and give slight
pressure to the metacarpal arch. The second bladder is placed on the finger
platform, just in front of the MCP-joints.
It provides support to the intrinsic muscles to extend the PIP- and DIP-joints of the
fingers.
· The frame should be adjusted individually, to reach a submaximal extension of the
wrist and fingers. The interaction between the static frame and the dynamic bladders
makes it possible to reach the individual maximum extension that is possible on your
specific patient.
Material
The material is made from pressure displacing and ventilated foam. The top surface
has a textile material with a check-board pattern that has been specially developed for
the DYFEX
®
products. The material works as an active pressure displacement function,
wicks away moisture from the skin and provides an optimal air-flow to the skin area.
The open check-board pattern makes it easy to keep the material clean.
Indications
The product has been design to provide a functional support to patients with moderate
to high spasticity. It also works excellent for patients that are undergoing botulinum toxin
treatment. Volar contractures in the wrist should not be over 45 degrees.
Contraindications
Patients high spasticity can be difficult to fit if they have a rapid fluctuations in spasticity.
Patients with volar contractures over 45 degrees in the wrist.
